If you're ever traveling through Riversdale and find yourself craving a delightful pause on your journey, look no further than Die Rooi Aalwyn Padstal. This charming farmstall and café is more than just a pitstop; it’s a delightful destination where tradition meets comfort food in a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Die Rooi Aalwyn specializes in “boetekos,” a South African delight, with their infamous vetkoek taking center stage on the menu. Guests rave about the fresh and fluffy vetkoek—these golden, deep-fried dough balls offer a soft texture that springs delightfully under the bite. Pair it with butter or your choice of savory fillings, like minced meat or a hearty curry, and you have a dish that many have dubbed the best in the land. Customers like Tim McLachlan not only relish the culinary offerings but also praise the attentive service, making each visit feel like a homecoming.

The café has cultivated an atmosphere that is both cozy and family-friendly. Picture relaxed seating options—indoor tables warmed by a charming fireplace, and an outdoor area boasting breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. The ambiance is punctuated by the laughter of children enjoying the dedicated play area, making it an excellent stop for families traveling together. Additionally, your furry friends are welcomed, with provisions like water bowls available for dogs—an appealing aspect highlighted by customers like Roxy Janzen.

But it isn't just about the vetkoek. A range of comfort foods are offered, from hearty omelets to the delicious tamatie bredie (Tomato stew), all praised for their homemade quality by patrons like Enid Son. And let’s not overlook the coffee; many reviews emphasize the honest and rich flavor that accompanies a meal, ensuring you leave not only satisfied but looking forward to your next visit.

Die Rooi Aalwyn Padstal also stands out with its diverse offerings beyond just food—this larger padstal features clothing, toiletries, and handcrafted goods, making it perfect for a little shopping as you refuel. As customer Jurina Vizzi mentioned, it's a lovely stop with a selection that caters to everything from hungry diners to gift seekers.

So when the road calls you, make sure to plan a stop at Die Rooi Aalwyn Padstal. With friendly staff eager to make you feel right at home, a menu full of comforting dishes, and a scenic backdrop that will imprint on your memory, this gem on your route is not to be missed. We love stopping at the farmstalls when we are road tripping. Die Rooi Aalwyn serves up "boetekos". Hubby had the tamatie bredie - he was a bit disappointed. I ordered Vetkoek en botter and my niece had the Vetkoek en mince. The Vetkoek is the winner - deliciously fresh and it had that spongy spring in the dough - it wasn't oily at all. We bought one as takeaway - it was so delicious- we just reheated it on a frying pan on low heat.

A brilliant place with great honest and cheap food. Service is friendly and efficient. Do not expect a fine dining experience. Expect and enjoy great comfort food and they know how to make GOOD coffee.

Most amazing farm stall and coffee shop. The staff are exceptionally friendly and go their way to make you feel at home. Ample parking. A mere 60-minute drive from Mosselbay towards Cape Town. Big playarea for kids and dog friendly. Even water bowls are available. Sweeping vistas of the mountains. Inside seating with a fireplace and outside seating. The "vetkoeke" is really tasty and freshly made. I had sumptuous, freshly made scones. The coffeeshop also has a variety of biscuits , rusks, jams, and frozen meals on offer. Highly recommended as a pitstop.

Stopped here on our way to Cape Town from Mosslbay. A great experience with friendly and helpful staff. Outside walking area for the dogs with some water for them too. I had the Curry mince Vetkoek which was really great. My wife took the butternut soup with freshly baked bread and the kids had the chicken and mayo sandwich with chips. All was really great, tasty and didn't take for ever to prepare. The coffee is also great. Also you can enjoy the great views seeing the sleeping beauty. Restroom convenience: 4/5 out side down the hall Restroom cleanliness: 4/5
